right now. he's going to tell us a little bit about what we should expect from the president and what he'll be talking about. obviously, chris, gun violence has been a major issue in chicago for many, many months now and the president has been called to this question, why hasn't he dealt with more forcibly in his remarks in a few moments, chris? >> reporter: that's right. it sets off in the '80s where he began his career as a community organizer. he would become a state legislator and u.s. senator. the connection is great. he still has a home here. the 15-year-old hadiya pendleton was killed a mile from where his job is. the connection is very real for him. the gun violence rate is one of the highest in the country. the poverty rate in the south side of chicago where he will be speaking today, where he was once a community organizer, one of the highest in the country. we've been here a couple of days, talking to community organizers. they say the need has never been greater. so when the president comes here, politically the main thing is to give his message from the state of the union an

will use super bowl sunday to talk about government regulations when it comes to the issue of steroids or head injuries. the phone lines are open. let's begin with a look at some of the headlines courtesy of the museum. from "the san francisco chronicle" -- from "the baltimore sun" -- let's turn to the politics and policy behind the nfl. this is a story a few days ago from "the washington post." outlining a plan and a letter to the executive director of the players union. they agreed as part of a 2011 collective bargaining agreement that the players should be tested for hgh, but the two sides of that agreed. two seasons have been played without it. last weekend in new orleans, roger goodell was asked a number of questions including one on the issue of head injuries. here is more from last week. facing multiple murder charges. molly line has been following the story for us. american hero known as the u.s. military's most lethal sniper and another man both killed at the rough creek lodge roughly 50 miles southwest of fort worth texas, yesterday. texas authorities believe eddie ray ruth of lancaster shot kyle and his close friend chad little field shortly after 3:00 in the afternoon fleeing the lodge area in kyle's stolen pickup truck. he was a dedicated corporal in the marines who had been deployed in iraq in 2007 and served in haiti in 2010. currently listed on reserve duty. a motive for the shooting remains unclear. but ruth apparently suffered from ptsd. according to friends, kyle may have taken him to the range in an effort to help him cope and ruth turned on the two men, shooting them at close range. after the murders, texas authorities say ruth drove to his sister's house and told her and her husband what happened at the gun range. they called law enforcement who went to ruth's home to make an arrest. ruth fled but caught after a short pursuit and automatic handgun rec
